How do you properly wash high-quality silk bed sheets? The natural fibers consist of animal proteins and are very similar in composition to human skin. Just like our skin, silk is sensitive to many environmental influences. Heat and alkaline substances, for example, are not good for delicate tissue. Silk clothing and linen, therefore, require particularly gentle treatment. Many silk garments can only be hand washed at low temperatures. However, silk sheets can usually be cleaned in the washing machine. The temperature at which this is possible can be found in the care instructions on the label. Color-fast silk bed sheets can often be washed at 60 °C. However, make sure to choose a wash cycle that only gently spins the laundry, such as the gentle or wool cycle. Some washing machines also have a silk program.
